Melody with Mimi Harmony

Stay tuned to see what happens next

Well hello there,

My name’s Mimi, I’m 23 from Colorado Springs, CO, but I moved to Nashville about a year ago. My Grammy has lived here since August 3, 1987 and I moved here on August 11th 2024. My older sister lived with Grammy on and off for 7 years before me, but left within a few weeks of my arrival.

My kitty Prince is about a year old and mostly white with what looks like accents of clothes/ tattoo sleeves in the print of a tabby cat. He’s extraordinarily sweet and gentle and likes to be around people but is shy when it comes to affection. Grammy’s kitty, Kleo Pattrick, is an all black Bombay cat that has a shorter little snout than other kitties, with greenish gold eyes. He’s the most outgoing cat you’ll meet–loves people, extremely independent, loves to play soccer with aluminum foil balls, plays fetch with hair ties, causes trouble, etc.. The first day they met they fell in love, and I mean so much so that we had to start giving them privacy and they’ve kept the same daily routine since. Grammy says, “we’re glad somebody has romance in this house.” Ahahahaha

I moved here because I had family here, but since moving here I’ve developed a love for music. I’m sure everyone says that, I mean thats the most common reason people move to Nashville. But I found the love for music here. It means a lot to me since I don’t think I could ever really say I loved music. At least I didn’t respect it as much as I do now. I’m wondering, have you or someone you know felt this way?

When I was a kid I used to play the clarinet, but I swear my band directors were so annoyed that I was first chair but didn’t practice. Looking back on it now, I really wish I practiced. I had learned saxophone in jazz band and flute in flute choir, but though I was good, I wasn’t disciplined, maybe partly not as inspired, maybe slightly discouraged, and probably other factors I haven’t begun to uncover. I’m not sure is anyone else has experienced anything like this.

But when I moved here, I stopped by my Grandpa in Albuquerque, and saw his Grammy Award for his band the New Vaudeville Band, and their song Winchester Cathedral (he played guitar). My Grammy also often remembers my other Grandpa Ron Davies who was a talented songwriter and guitar player as well.

Well my family and this city has inspired me to play music again. The friends I’ve made at Browns Diner have encouraged along with my Grammy these pursuits. They gave me a tip to get a guitar from guitar center on Black Friday in 2024 and that’s just what I did. My grandpa gave me his baritone ukulele as well and, I’ve lost my clarinet and sold my sax a long time ago, but thankfully I have my flute.

I guess all this to say, I’m hoping to follow this journey I’m on to learn what I find joy in putting my mind to.

I hope by reading this you find some sort of comfort in not being alone in your journey, or even if it’s thinking “I’m at least not as far off as her”, but I hope to use this space to normalize some area’s of life that may not be as obvious or common to others.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post, and I hope you stick around for more. Feel free to reach out, my email is melodywithmimiharmony@gmail.com, I’d love to know how you relate. If you want to watch my progress in this music journey, check out my Youtube at Mimi’s Daily Musical. You can also request to Follow my Instagram @mimisdailymusical, at least until I make it a public account (I can’t give you an answer right now why it’s private, but it will just be).

Hoping to write again soon and wishing you a lovely and blessed week.
